Human beings are nothing more than ordinary jungle beasts
Human beings will do anything, anything. I am convinced. That’s why when all those beheadings started in Iraq it didn’t bother me. A lot of people here were horrified, “Whaaaa, beheadings!” What, are you fucking surprised? Just one more form of extreme human behaviour. Besides, who cares about some mercenary civilian contractor from Oklahoma who gets his head cut off? Fuck ‘em. Hey Jack, you don’t want to get your head cut off? Stay the fuck in Oklahoma. They aint cuttin’ of heads in Oklahoma, far as I know. But I do know this: you strap on a gun and go struttin’ around some other mens country you better be ready for some action Jack. People are touchy about that sort of thing. And let me ask you this… this is a morale question, not retorical, I am looking for the answer: what is the morale difference between cuttin’ of one guys head, or two, or three, of five or ten – and dropping a big bomb on a hospital and killing a whole bunch of sick kids? Has anybody in authority given you an explanation of the difference? Now, in case you’re wondering why I have a certain interest, or fascination lets call it, with torture and beheadings and all of those things I have mentioned, is because each of these items reminds me in life over and over again what beasts we human beings really are. When you get right down to it human beings are nothing more than ordinary jungle beasts. Savages. No different from the Cro Magnon people who lived twenty five thousand years ago. No different. Our DNA hasn’t changed substantially in a houndred thousand years. We’re still operating out of the lower brain. The reptilian brain.Fight of flight. Kill or be killed. We like to think we’ve evolved and advanced because we can build a computer, fly an airplane, travel underwater, we can write a sonet, paint a painting, compose an opera. But you know something? We’re barely out of the jungle on this planet. Barely out of the fucking jungle. What we are, is semi-civilized beasts, with baseball caps and automatic weapons.
George Carlin, Life is worth losing (2005)
Have you ever though about this aspect of the human behaviour? Rape, torture, genocide, necrophilia (the list goes on and on). Only people are capable of doing something like that to each other. Animals don’t – the survival of the fittest – this is how animals survive in the wild – food chain.Nothing further than that – we are the only species on this Planet, that are capable of hurting and killing for pleasure.
Do you remember Jon Voight’s line in Runaway train? When Sara told him, that he is an animal, and he replied:
No, worse! Human! Human!
Oh yeah.. this makes me feel very proud of us, humans.
And there is one more thing that we should worry about: who is going to survive?
Is it people that go to university, are smart, have a great career, but don’t think about kids until a very late age, and then no more than 2 kids, while a guy in middle east, that doesn’t have the “genes”, you might say, of becoming an intelligent individual, but knows nothing about protected sex and makes a lot of babies with more than one woman?
If you think of Darwin’s law, then you will worry because stupid people are propagating themselves way better than intelligent people… They might not be so stupid after all…
It’s not about being either stupid or smart. This is not relevant to the topic of mankind’s cruelty.
When you look back one of the most cruel, sadistic and vile men in the history of mankind were all fairly intelligent and absolutely sane human beings.
Also – if you search the most famous serial killers you can compare it for yourself. Their level of intelligence is anything else, but not low.
So intelligence in this matter is not really that relevant.
But…I do agree with you that…ok, stupid people are propagating themselves way better than intelligent once. And actually we do propagate them too – when you turn on the the evening news you are much more likely to hear about the latest bigotry, crime, rape and Paris Hilton, rather than the last biochemical experiment by three scientists who found a vaccine for hepatitis C.
I ended up concluding that we now live in this really, really very messed up world, because this is our nature. And if we are looking for a guilty one, we only have to look into a mirror. It’s not our political leaders, nor the systems. Why?
Comminism/Marxsism locked us in our cages (countries), took away our rights for private property, made us all equal, shut our mouths with laws and closed our eyes with propaganda.
Then capitalism gave us all the free will to do whatever we wanted – and we became too greedy and too selfish. Everybody wanted a piece of the cake – everybody wanted the idyllic big home, fancy car, the latest Mac etc. etc. And then we were suddenly no longer equal. The corruption, crime and atrocity became an essential part of our lives – the easiest way to climb up on the next step of the hierarchy.
So after all it’s all about us – our nature, our choice. Of course I am not saying that all the 6.7 billion people in the world are like that, but still…statistics are statistics and facts are facts. The one thing that the communist idea got right is that one of the most terrifying things for a human being is power. Power corrupts. Fact!
My father was around politics for the past 12-13 years before he passed away. Always around, never in. And because I was always around him, I learned a lot of things about power. I’ve seen decent, good men going into politics and after few years becoming no different than any other corrupted politician we can see nowadays. And it’s not just politics – any other power, even the most insignificant one. So we may believe that we are good and honest people (which we may are), but that does not mean that if the circumstances are different we won’t be the those vile and corrupt savages that we see on TV or read about. Just because we suppressed those characteristics, does not mean that we don’t have them.
We haven’t evolved as much as we would like to think we did.
And about your question, who will survive – the Chinese!
